This is on my coffee cup:

The Way I See It #148
Great teachers should be paid like doctors
or corporate attorneys. I worry about
what will happen to our economy and
our democracy if we don't start to take
teachers' jobs seriously.

I wouldn't mind being paid like a Doctor or a Lawyer - I figure my job can be just as important.

But I'm not - must be that I really like what I do, I don;t do it for the money, and that's part of what makes me good at my job.

So a teacher who's not in it for the money, and only for the passion of being a part of the future of our society might actually be what makes that person a good teacher.

At the very least teachers should get the respect they deserve. They are there to shape the minds of the future and help them figure things out for themselves. They aren't there to babysit your kids.

Oh, it's nice to hear someone say that. Oh, and the reason we get like 3 months off in the summer is because we work day and night the rest of the year. Anyone that thinks teachers have it easy should try doing our marking and lesson planning and supervising of extracurricular activities and attending of staff meetings and so much else...all outside of regular working hours.
